UPDATE FROM 2023 FRAUD CASE

In September of 2023 the executive board uncovered evidence of embezzlement in Bellevue Big Picture PTSA’s accounts. The board took immediate action to stop the theft, complete a multi-year financial review, contact the Bellevue Police Department, and try to recover the missing funds. At the General Membership meeting in January of 2024, the membership was informed of the theft and the steps that had been taken.

At this time, a majority of the funds have been returned and, with the completion of the investigation by BPD, we are expecting to receive full restitution. Additionally, the case has been referred to the King County Prosecutor’s office and a decision has been made to bring charges against the individual responsible.

The Board has ensured that there was no substantial impact on the PTSA activities since the theft was identified. The financial safeguards that were reinforced at the time the theft was discovered have been faithfully followed, and the financial health of the organization is strong.

We will continue to update the membership if there are any further developments.
